SUNSHINE VILLAGE: 90 YEARS OF NATURE AND MANKIND IN HARMONY
At Banff Sunshine Village it has been our privilege of introducing thousands of skiers and snowboarders to the majestic scenery that is the Canadian Rockies. With views like ours, it’s no wonder why Banff National Park was established as Canada’s first National Park.
Our first lodge was built in 1927-28 when Canadian Pacific Rail realized the potential of what would become Banff Sunshine Village. They built our first lodge, The Old Sunshine Lodge (now home of Trapper’s) for adventure seekers wanting to experience the Canadian Rockies.
In 1981, the Scurfield family purchased Sunshine Village with the goal of inspiring every guest to fall in love with the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The Scurfield family has transformed our three mountains into the world-class ski and snowboard resort it is today.
Banff Sunshine Village is proud to boast the most modern lift system in Canada with 8 high-speed lifts including Canada’s only heated chairlift (Teepee Town LX) and an 8-passenger wheelchair accessible high-speed gondola.
Thanks to our efficient lift system guests at Banff Sunshine Village can ski about the resort with ease and comfort. Sunshine Mountain Lodge’s lobby, restaurants and guest facilities have been expanded and transformed to deliver a quality experience for all guests at Banff’s only ski-in, ski-out hotel. In recent years, the Scurfield family has spent $60 million on capital improvements to ensure a first-class experience for skiers and riders. Future improvements and projects will be incorporated into a new 15-year plan for Sunshine Village in conjunction with Parks Canada.
2016- ALTO SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARD Sunshine Mountain Lodge is the proud 2016 recipient of the ALTO Alberta Tourism Service Excellence Award. The Service Excellence Award is the hallmark trophy for tourism in Alberta. Each year it is presented to an organization in the tourism industry that demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, delivering outstanding customer service to their visitors, employees and all stakeholders.
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP Sunshine Village has lowered per-skier water usage by 38 percent. This has dramatically reduced its impact on the alpine lake that acts as its water source, improved water filter life, and reduced the fuel and energy related to water pumping. These water conservation efforts were accomplished despite a continued increase in skier visits. Sunshine Village has developed a thorough and systematic approach to solving water supply problems.
