Summer at Sunshine

Known as one of the most stunning alpine settings in the Canadian Rockies, and ranked the #1 day hike in Canada by Lonely Planet, Sunshine Meadows offers visitors unparalleled views. As spring turns into summer the meadows are in full bloom and ablaze with colourful wildflowers, setting off jaw-dropping views of surrounding peaks, including Mt. Assiniboine, “the Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies.”

As summer progresses to autumn, the trees change from vibrant yellow to deep red, offering another natural wonder. In all, you can find of some of the country’s most stunning natural terrain during your hike.

Just an hour and a half from Calgary and 10 minutes from the town of Banff, the incredibly accessible day hike sits at 2,220 metres (7,300 feet), straddling the Continental Divide and boundary between Alberta and British Columbia. Visitors to the mountain are often overwhelmed by the transformation from powder-covered ski runs to lush, blooming valley.

From the Sunshine Village Bourgeau base, visitors can take a round trip bus ride up to the village, where the hike begins. White Mountain Adventures operates the Sunshine Meadows Alpine Shuttle every day from June 21st until October 6th (weather dependent). Shuttles run every hour from the Sunshine Village parking lot and once daily from designated spots in the town of Banff.
